Tensions within Maharashtra’s opposition alliance, the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA), have come to the forefront following Vanchit Bahujan Aaghadi (VBA) President Prakash Ambedkar’s announcement of support for the Congress party on seven Lok Sabha seats in the state. Ambedkar’s move underscores growing dissatisfaction with the alliance’s handling of seat-sharing negotiations and perceived neglect of VBA’s interests by key coalition partners.

In a social media post on Tuesday, Ambedkar revealed his decision to extend support to the Congress party on seven Lok Sabha seats, urging Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge to nominate the constituencies from the quota allotted to Congress within the MVA framework.

Citing the lack of meaningful dialogue during recent coalition meetings, Ambedkar expressed frustration over the MVA’s failure to engage with VBA on crucial issues, including seat allocation.

Ambedkar directed pointed criticism towards Shiv Sena and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), accusing both parties of exhibiting bias against VBA within the alliance. He lamented the unequal treatment meted out to VBA and underscored his loss of faith in their commitment to inclusive governance.

Despite these tensions, Ambedkar reiterated VBA’s unwavering stance against the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), emphasizing the urgent need to dismantle what he termed as a “fascist, divisive, undemocratic” regime led by the BJP-RSS.

“In line with our commitment to oppose the BJP-RSS government, VBA will extend its full support to the Indian National Congress on seven seats in Maharashtra,” Ambedkar affirmed.

He urged Kharge to provide a list of seven constituencies where VBA workers would actively rally behind Congress candidates, offering both ground and strategic assistance.

Amidst the discord, Ambedkar left the door open for potential collaboration between Congress and VBA, characterizing his proposal as a gesture of goodwill and an invitation for future alliance possibilities.

The developments underscore the delicate balancing act required within Maharashtra’s opposition camp as it navigates internal dissent and external pressures ahead of the crucial Lok Sabha elections.
