“I Got It Solved by Tariffs”: Donald Trump Repeats Claim of Ending India–Pakistan 2025 Conflict

Trump Reiterates Role in Conflict De-escalation

US President Donald Trump has once again claimed that he helped ease tensions between India and Pakistan during their 2025 conflict. He said he used the threat of tariffs as leverage to push both nations toward stopping hostilities and coming to the negotiating table.

“Tariffs Were My Tool,” Says Trump

Speaking during an executive order signing event, Trump said he warned both countries of heavy economic consequences if fighting continued. He claimed that this pressure helped prevent further escalation between the two nuclear-armed neighbours and forced leaders to consider dialogue.

Claims of Major Escalation and Intervention

Trump stated that the conflict involved serious military escalation and alleged that multiple aircraft were shot down. He added that he personally intervened by linking trade penalties to continued fighting, which he believes contributed to calming the situation.

Pakistan Credit Claim Repeated

The US President also repeated his claim that Pakistan’s leadership credited him with saving “30 to 50 million lives.” He further said he has resolved multiple international conflicts during his term using similar economic pressure tactics, including tariffs.

India Rejects Trump’s Assertion

India has rejected these claims. According to official statements, the ceasefire understanding came during Operation Sindoor after Pakistan’s DGMO contacted his Indian counterpart. Indian authorities maintain that de-escalation followed targeted strikes on terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Jammu and Kashmir in response to the Pahalgam terror attack.
