Accused Arrested After Encounter in Moradabad
In a swift development following a widely circulated CCTV video showing the molestation of a burqa-clad woman, police in Moradabad arrested the accused within 24 hours after an encounter. The accused, identified as Naushad, was injured after being shot in the leg during the police operation and is currently undergoing treatment at the district hospital. He is a resident of the Katghar police station area.
CCTV Footage Triggers Police Action
According to reports, the incident came to light after CCTV footage surfaced on social media showing a man assaulting a burqa-clad woman in a narrow lane. The video showed the woman walking when the accused suddenly approached her, committed obscene acts, and fled the spot. The victim can be seen resisting and shouting during the incident. The viral footage prompted immediate police action.
Police Chase and Encounter
Police tracked the accused after identifying him through CCTV analysis. Officials stated that Naushad attempted to escape when intercepted, leading to an encounter in which he was shot in the leg. He was later taken into custody and shifted to a hospital for medical treatment under police supervision.
Previous Similar Case in the Region
This incident has revived concerns in the region, as a similar case was reported in Moradabad last year in the Nagphani area, where a burqa-clad woman was sexually assaulted in a residential locality. That case was also captured on CCTV and went viral online, prompting public outrage.
Another Related Encounter Case Mentioned
In a separate earlier incident, police had arrested another accused, Adil Saifi, from the Deputy Ganj area after a confrontation. He was allegedly absconding and attempting to flee on a motorbike when police intercepted him, resulting in a leg injury during the encounter.
Police Investigation Continues
Authorities have stated that further investigation is underway, and additional evidence is being collected based on CCTV footage and eyewitness accounts. Police officials emphasized that strict action will be taken against anyone involved in such crimes.
