Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party Rajya Sabha MP Raghav Chadha on Friday voiced strong support for gig and platform workers across India, calling for dignity, fair pay and social security for those powering the country’s fast-growing delivery economy. His remarks came a day after thousands of gig workers participated in a nationwide symbolic strike on New Year’s Eve.

Standing firmly with delivery partners from major platforms, Chadha said he had personally interacted with riders working for food delivery and quick-commerce companies. Sharing his experience, he stressed that the issue goes beyond protest slogans and reflects the everyday struggles of workers who keep instant services running.

“This is not a rant, this is a conversation with people whose hard work fuels our daily convenience,” Chadha said, adding that riders often remain unheard despite being central to the success of app-based companies.

The strike, jointly organised by the Telangana Gig and Platform Workers Union (TGPWU) and the Indian Federation of App-Based Transport Workers (IFAT), saw delivery partners in several states logging off apps or slowing work. The action led to noticeable delays and service disruptions in multiple cities on one of the busiest commercial days of the year.

Chadha described it as deeply unfortunate that workers who helped build billion-dollar platforms are now compelled to protest simply to have their voices acknowledged. “These companies didn’t grow only on algorithms,” he said. “They grew on human sweat and labour.”
