In a heart-wrenching incident in Nevasa, Ahmednagar, six members of a family tragically lost their lives while attempting to rescue a cat from an abandoned well. As reported by ANI, Senior Police Officer Dhananjay Jadhav stated, “A rescue team recovered the dead bodies of five of the six people who jumped one after another into an abandoned well-having animal waste stored while trying to rescue a cat. One person who entered the well with a rope tied to his waist survived and was later rescued by the police. He is under treatment in the hospital nearby. A probe is underway.”
According to local media reports, the ordeal began when a cat fell into the well and became trapped. Unable to bear the sight of the distressed animal, the family sprang into action to rescue it. However, what started as a noble act of kindness quickly turned into a nightmare.
Witnesses recounted how each family member, one after another, jumped into the well in a desperate attempt to save the trapped cat and each other. Tragically, the situation spiraled out of control, leading to the loss of five lives.
The rescue operation, which lasted over five hours, was fraught with challenges. Despite the efforts of the rescue teams and police, only one member of the family could be saved. The survivor is currently receiving medical treatment at a nearby hospital.
Local residents expressed their dismay at the length of time it took for the rescue operation to conclude. Criticism was leveled at the authorities for what some perceived as a delay in their response.
The victims have been identified as Manik Govind Kale, Sandeep Manik Kale, Bablu Anil Kale, Anil Bapurao Kale, and Babasaheb Gaikwad. Their untimely demise has left the community in mourning, serving as a stark reminder of the dangers inherent in impromptu rescue attempts.
As investigations continue into the tragic incident, the community grapples with the loss of six cherished lives, a poignant reminder of the unpredictable nature of life’s challenges.
