Nashik: In a heart-wrenching incident, 11 passengers lost their lives, and five others sustained injuries in a rail accident involving the Lucknow-Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus Pushpak Express and Karnataka Express in Maharashtra’s Jalgaon district on Wednesday evening.

The accident occurred around 5 PM between Maheji and Pardhade stations after a chain-pulling incident on the Pushpak Express. Passengers reportedly panicked due to a rumor of fire on the train, leading some to step out of the halted train. Tragically, they were struck by the Karnataka Express, which was traveling in the opposite direction on an adjacent track.

Central Railway Chief Public Relations Officer (CPRO) Swapnil Kumar Leela, in a video statement, explained the sequence of events. “The train had stopped, after which some passengers from a coach stepped out. Meanwhile, Karnataka Express, going in the opposite direction, was passing through the next track,” he said.

Emergency measures were promptly initiated. “We have sought assistance from nearby hospitals, and a railway accident relief medical van has been dispatched from Bhusawal. It will reach the site soon. The Karnataka Express has resumed its journey, and the Pushpak Express will move after attending to the injured passengers,” Leela added.
