The Telugu community is mourning the loss of Venkataramana Pittala, a 27-year-old student from Telangana who tragically lost his life in a jet-ski accident in Florida, USA. Pittala was pursuing his master’s degree in health informatics at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis (IUPUI) and had moved to the United States to further his education.

Originally hailing from Kazipet, Telangana, Pittala’s promising journey was cut short when the incident occurred on March 9th at the Fury Playground near Wisteria Island in Florida. Reports indicate that alongside Pittala, a 14-year-old boy was also involved in the accident but fortunately emerged unscathed.

Pittala, described as a dedicated and ambitious student, was due to graduate in May with his master’s degree. He had previously obtained his bachelor’s degree in physiotherapy from the prestigious NTR University of Health Sciences in Andhra Pradesh.

In the wake of the tragic accident, Pittala’s friends have initiated a fundraising campaign on “gofundme” to raise support for facilitating his final rites in India. The initiative aims to gather assistance from the wider community to help Pittala’s family during this difficult time.

This unfortunate incident marks the eighth reported death of an Indian student in the US this year, highlighting a concerning trend that has garnered attention within the Indian diaspora. Additionally, there have been reports of an increase in assaults against Indian students in the country, prompting calls for enhanced safety measures and support for international students.
