Haridwar: A tragic stampede at the revered Mansa Devi temple in Haridwar, Uttarakhand, claimed the lives of at least six devotees early Sunday morning, while over 30 others sustained injuries. The incident occurred during a heavy influx of pilgrims visiting the temple as part of the ongoing Shravan festivities.
Garhwal Division Commissioner Vinay Shankar Pandey confirmed the deaths and said that the situation is being closely monitored. He is on his way to the temple to assess the circumstances and oversee rescue efforts. A detailed report is expected soon.
According to preliminary information, the stampede broke out around 7:30 AM when a massive crowd surged toward the temple gates, leading to a bottleneck on the narrow pathway. The sudden movement caused panic, resulting in people being crushed and trampled.
