Tej Pratap Yadav to Contest from Mahua as Independent, Vows to Fight for Youth and Change in Bihar

Patna: In a dramatic turn of events ahead of the Bihar Assembly Elections 2025, former state minister Tej Pratap Yadav has announced his independent candidacy from the Mahua Assembly constituency in Vaishali district. The move comes days after his expulsion from the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) by his father and party patriarch Lalu Prasad Yadav.

Currently the sitting MLA from Hasanpur in Samastipur district, Tej Pratap’s switch to Mahua—a seat he previously held from 2015 to 2020—signals a strategic re-entry into a politically significant region. His campaign will be run independently, without the RJD’s symbol or machinery, under the banner of his growing support base, ‘Team Tej Pratap Yadav’, a social media-driven platform.

Tej Pratap’s decision marks a new chapter in Bihar politics, where dynastic divisions have begun to surface more prominently. While addressing the press at his Patna residence, the former health minister asserted that he no longer needs the party’s backing and will directly connect with voters.
