Monsoon Surge: IMD Issues Rain Alerts Across Maharashtra; Mumbai, Raigad, and Vidarbha on High Watch

Mumbai: Maharashtra continues to witness an active monsoon phase as the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued weather alerts for 17 districts following sustained rainfall across the state over the past three days. While the rain intensity is expected to reduce slightly from July 27 onwards, several regions remain under caution due to the possibility of heavy downpours and strong winds.

As of 9 a.m., Mumbai recorded light showers with a temperature of 29°C and humidity levels at 84%. Winds blowing at 35 km/h added to the coastal city’s typical monsoon feel. Light rain is likely to persist throughout the week, keeping daily temperatures steady between 27°C and 29°C.

The IMD has placed Raigad under an orange alert, citing a significant risk of heavy to very heavy rainfall. Neighboring districts such as Palghar, Thane, Ratnagiri, and Sindhudurg are under yellow alerts, indicating the potential for localised heavy showers and possible waterlogging.

Pune and surrounding Ghats are also under watch. While Pune, Kolhapur, Satara, Sangli, and Solapur will receive light to moderate showers, the Ghats in Pune and Satara have been placed under an orange alert due to the threat of intense rainfall. A yellow alert has been issued for Kolhapur’s hilly regions.

In Marathwada, districts such as Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Jalna, and Parbhani will see moderate showers and breezy conditions, while Beed, Hingoli, Nanded, Latur, and Dharashiv are likely to receive light rain. These areas may experience brief spells of wind-driven showers, typical of mid-monsoon activity.

North Maharashtra districts like Dhule, Nandurbar, Nashik, Jalgaon, and Ahilyanagar are forecasted to have light to moderate rainfall, with the Nashik Ghats on special alert due to the potential for localized heavy rain.

Meanwhile, Vidarbha is bracing for more severe weather. Akola, Amravati, and Buldhana have been warned about intense rainfall, gusty winds, and thunderstorms, with similar conditions likely in Chandrapur, Gadchiroli, Gondia, Nagpur, Wardha, Washim, and Yavatmal. Residents in these districts are advised to stay indoors during heavy showers and avoid traveling through low-lying areas.
