Kolkata: Former Rajya Sabha MP and Trinamool Congress (TMC) leader Kunal Ghosh on Wednesday slammed filmmaker Vivek Agnihotri, a day after Agnihotri requested West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee not to block the release of his upcoming film The Bengal Files.

Ghosh rejected claims of political pressure influencing opposition to the film, accusing Agnihotri of trying to provoke public sentiment under the guise of cinema.

“There is no political pressure. If Vivek ji thinks that no one in Bengal knows who is creating what provocation in the name of the film, he is mistaken. If theatre owners decide not to promote any provocative content, it is their own decision. There is no politics involved,” Ghosh said, according to reports.

The TMC leader also accused Agnihotri of exercising a “selective conscience,” questioning why the filmmaker did not address other critical incidents. “Where was Vivek ji’s conscience during Godhra? Why didn’t he make Gujarat Files? When Manipur was burning, why didn’t he make Manipur Files? His selective conscience is clear to everyone,” Ghosh remarked.

Earlier, Agnihotri posted a video on social media appealing to CM Banerjee, highlighting the concerns of exhibitors facing alleged political pressure regarding the screening of The Bengal Files in West Bengal theaters.
