TMC Rajya Sabha MP Saket Gokhale has raised serious concerns regarding the Election Commission of India’s perceived leniency towards the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in enforcing Model Code of Conduct (MCC) rules. Gokhale’s inquiry comes amidst allegations that the BJP is openly flouting election guidelines without facing repercussions.

In a scathing tweet, Gokhale pointed out the apparent discrepancy in how the Election Commission handles tweets from different political parties. He highlighted instances where tweets from parties other than the BJP were taken down, while those from the ruling party remained untouched.

Sharing a screenshot of a tweet from the BJP’s official handle featuring an image of Lord Ram’s idol at the Ayodhya temple with campaign text, Gokhale criticized the Election Commission’s selective enforcement of rules. He questioned the EC’s stance on religious campaigning, emphasizing the need for consistent application of regulations.

Similarly, fact-checker Mohammed Zubair also called out the BJP’s tweet, highlighting its potential violation of the election code of conduct. He urged the Election Commission to take action against such infractions, emphasizing the importance of upholding electoral integrity.

The allegations of bias against the Election Commission gained further momentum as the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) condemned the EC’s order to remove select posts from social media platforms. AAP spokesperson Priyanka Kakkar accused the EC of favoritism towards the BJP, citing the lack of action taken against the ruling party despite complaints filed by opposition parties.

Kakkar criticized the perceived alignment between the EC and the BJP, labeling it as detrimental to the democratic process. She underscored the urgent need for impartial oversight to ensure fair and transparent elections.
