TMC Rift Widens As Rajya Sabha MP Nadeemul Haque Reportedly Establishes Contact With BJP Leaders

The political storm inside the Trinamool Congress appears to be gathering momentum, with fresh reports suggesting that dissent within the party has spread across both its parliamentary and legislative wings.

The latest development involves reports that TMC MP Nadeemul Haque is allegedly in communication with BJP leaders, adding to speculation that a larger political realignment could be underway within the party. While there has been no official confirmation regarding any future move, the claim has intensified discussions about the growing unrest in Bengal’s ruling party.

The controversy comes shortly after senior leader Sukhendu Sekhar Roy stepped down from both the Trinamool Congress and the Rajya Sabha, a move that triggered widespread political debate and raised questions about internal cohesion within the organisation.

Attention has now shifted to a group of Lok Sabha MPs who are reportedly seeking recognition as a separate faction in Parliament. According to political sources, more than 20 MPs have submitted a communication to Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla outlining their position and seeking formal consideration.

The group is believed to be led by Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar, who confirmed that a letter had been submitted.

“We have written to the Speaker expressing our support for the NDA. We are still part of the Trinamool Congress, but we have stood with the voters of Bengal and echoed the dissatisfaction they have expressed,” Dastidar said.

Explaining the reasons behind the move, she added, “He (Speaker) will call us himself when he has the time… I said that we, all twenty of us MPs in the Lok Sabha, were unable to function effectively. I also explained that while many Central Government schemes have been implemented across the country, they haven’t been implemented in Bengal. We need to bring those schemes to the voters who elected us.”

Rejecting suggestions that the MPs were acting under pressure, Dastidar stated, “There is no intimidation. You can see for yourself, I am sitting here alone. Where is the intimidation?… We all 20 MPs sat down and signed the letter.”

Adding another layer to the unfolding political drama, a separate development in the West Bengal Assembly has further highlighted divisions within the party. Expelled TMC MLA Ritabrata Banerjee reportedly submitted a letter backed by more than 59 legislators to Assembly Speaker Rathindra Bose.

The communication reportedly acknowledged Mamata Banerjee as the leader of the party while also proposing a new opposition leadership structure inside the Assembly. The move has sparked fresh debate about the future direction of the party and the emergence of competing centres of influence.
