Srinagar: The three-day Volleyball tournament cum Food Festival was organized by the Indian Army’s 21 Rashtriya Rifles (RR) at the Boys Higher Secondary School in Handwara in the memory of Shaheed Major Anuj Sood. The final match of this tournament was played between Magam Sports and Handwara Sports. The Volleyball team Handwara lifted the trophy winning the final.
At the finale chief was DDC Rajwar Mir Sulimaan, Traders Federation Present Handwara Aijaz Ahmad Sofi and also the Commanding Officer (CO) 21 RR DySP Handwara Town Commander 21RR other prominent citizens of Handwara was present and number of sports persons was present at this final occasion.
The players were felicitated with trophy and cash prize on this final occasion. On the occasion sports persons and youth said these programmes should also be held in future so youth’s will be engaging in sports.
Major Anuj Sood was a second-generation officer and always motivated to join the armed forces. He joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) Alpha Squadron 120 course and got commissioned in Brigade Of The Guards from Indian Military Academy (IMA) 130 course. He was the alumnus of PPS Nabha and was selected to join IIT but preferred to join NDA. He was martyred on May 2, 2020 in an encounter with terrorist in Kashmir and cremated with full military honours at Mani Majra, Chandigarh on May 5, 2020.
