Tehsildar Handwara conducts market checking drive to regulate prices of essential commodities

Srinagar: Following the directions of Deputy Commissioner Kupwara, Ayushi Sudan (IAS), Tehsildar Handwara, Zeeshan Khan, along with a team from the Revenue department, conducted a market-checking drive in Handwara on Thursday.

The drive aimed to regulate the prices of essential commodities, curb hoarding, and ensure the availability of fresh produce in the market. Tehsildar Khan visited several marketplaces to inspect the pricing and quality of essential items being sold.

Speaking during the drive, Tehsildar Khan stated, “The purpose of this market-checking initiative is to prevent exorbitant pricing, ensure the availability of essential commodities, and discourage hoarding practices. This is part of the administration’s efforts to safeguard the interests of consumers.”

Erring shopkeepers were fined on the spot for violations and were instructed to maintain fair pricing and ensure fresh vegetables and other essentials are readily available to the public.

The initiative has been widely appreciated by locals, who have welcomed the administration’s proactive measures to protect consumer rights and maintain market discipline. The administration has assured continued monitoring to ensure compliance with market regulations.
