‘North Bengal Will Become BJP’s Development Engine’: CM Suvendu Adhikari Promises AIIMS, IIT and Major Infrastructure Push

West Bengal Chief Minister Suvendu Adhikari on Wednesday announced an ambitious development roadmap for North Bengal, promising major healthcare, education and infrastructure projects while crediting the region for strongly backing the Bharatiya Janata Party in the Assembly elections.

Addressing a gathering in Siliguri, Adhikari said the BJP government was committed to transforming North Bengal into a major growth and development hub and would ensure that promises made during the election campaign were implemented on priority.

The Chief Minister said the region had consistently supported Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the BJP, adding that the government now considered it its responsibility to fulfill the aspirations of the people of North Bengal through faster development and direct administrative engagement.

As part of the new outreach strategy, Adhikari announced that ministers from North Bengal would conduct weekly “Janata Darshan” public interaction sessions to hear grievances, monitor local issues and coordinate with district administrations for quicker implementation of welfare schemes and development projects.

The Chief Minister also said the state government would regularly review ongoing projects through coordination meetings to ensure that public services and infrastructure work progressed without delays across the northern districts.

Highlighting the BJP’s election promises, Adhikari said the government planned to establish major institutions in the region, including an AIIMS, an IIT and a dedicated cancer hospital, which he described as crucial for improving healthcare access and higher education opportunities in North Bengal.

The announcement is being viewed as part of the BJP government’s broader effort to consolidate its political base in North Bengal, a region that played a significant role in the party’s strong electoral performance in the state.

Political observers believe the focus on healthcare, education and regional representation could become central to the new government’s strategy ahead of future local body and parliamentary elections in West Bengal.
