Kolkata: Tensions flared in West Bengal’s South 24 Parganas district after Leader of Opposition Suvendu Adhikari claimed that he was attacked by miscreants during his visit to the Sunderbans to attend Kali Puja and Diwali celebrations on Sunday. The senior BJP leader has accused the Trinamool Congress (TMC) of orchestrating a “planned political conspiracy” against him.
According to Adhikari, his convoy came under attack at multiple locations — including Kashinagar, Kultali, Khutibazar, Raidighi, Nabadokan, and Krishnachandrapur — while he was on his way to attend various festive events across the Sunderban Police District.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Adhikari wrote, “The details of my itinerary were given to the Sunderban Police District to ensure no untoward incident occurs. Yet, the police failed to perform its duty.” He further alleged that the attackers were “goons supported by the ruling TMC”, claiming that illegal migrants from Bangladesh were being incited to target members of the opposition.
Adhikari’s lawyer has filed formal complaints with multiple police stations in the affected areas, and the BJP leader has shared copies of the complaints online. “This is not an isolated incident. It is part of a larger conspiracy by the ruling Trinamool Congress to intimidate the Opposition,” he alleged.
