Mumbai: Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar clarified that the suspension of the 12 Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) by the Maha Vikas Aghadi government was not a political vendetta.

Addressing the media on the eve of the Winter Session of the State Legislature at Sahyadri Guest House, Pawar said that the suspension of 12 MLAs was done due to physical and derogatory language which they used.

“The language used was unparliamentary. It was not tit for tat for the Governor not clearing the names of the 12 members to the legislative council. This was not at all a political vendetta,” said Pawar.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray attended the state cabinet through Video Conferencing due to his health issues.

Speaking on the abolition of the political reservation to Other Backwards Class (OBCs) in the local body elections, Pawar said, the government has not fallen short on the OBC political reservation.

“Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray held meetings with Leader of Oppositions (LoPs) and opposition leaders. The centre is taking a different stand for states which are facing similar issues of political reservation. The government will clarify its stand in the session,” said Pawar.

He added that government is prepared to reply to various debates including OBC political reservation, paper leak, disconnection of electricity due to delay in payment of bills.

When asked about why not winter session be held in Nagpur, Pawar said that MVA was of the view that the session should be held in Nagpur. But since the CM has restrictions to travel by air, the session has been organised in Mumbai.

Opposition BJP criticised that the MVA government is running away from answering opposition. That is why MVA has curtailed the period of the session, LoP Devendra Fadnavis blamed the government during his press interaction.

Reading on Fadnavis’ blames, Pawar said, “In West Bengal, the one-day session was held and in some states, 4-5 days session was held. Due to Covid situation and the new variant of Omicron the session has been curtailed.”

On boycotting the customary tea party called by the CM, Pawar said the opposition is consistently boycotting the customary tea party. “This should not happen. Through tea, party discussions are held. In a democracy, the discussion should be held,” said the Dy CM.

Meanwhile, Five pending bills will be taken in the session. 21 have been approved by the cabinet. Total 26 bills including Shakti Legislation will be tabled in the winter session of the legislature.
