Another Setback For TMC Amid Internal Unrest
The political challenges facing the All India Trinamool Congress appeared to deepen on Wednesday after reports claimed that senior party leader Sushmita Dev resigned from the Rajya Sabha.
If confirmed, the development would mark another significant blow for party chief Mamata Banerjee, who is already grappling with signs of growing dissent within the party’s ranks.
Second Rajya Sabha Exit Raises Concerns
Sushmita Dev’s reported resignation comes shortly after the departure of Sukhendu Shekhar Roy, making her the second Trinamool representative in the Upper House to step down in a short span of time.
The latest development has fueled speculation about widening cracks within the party at both the parliamentary and organisational levels.
Political observers view the reported exit as part of a broader pattern of unrest that has emerged in recent weeks.
Rebellion Challenges Party Leadership
The Trinamool Congress has been facing turbulence following reports that a section of its elected representatives expressed support for dissident voices within the party.
The situation has also attracted attention after claims that several MPs and legislators distanced themselves from the party leadership’s position on key political issues.
While party leaders have sought to project confidence, the reported resignations have intensified discussions about internal cohesion ahead of future political battles.
From Congress Leader To TMC National Face
Sushmita Dev entered the Trinamool Congress in 2021 after ending her long association with the Congress party.
Before joining the TMC, she represented the Silchar Lok Sabha constituency in Assam and was among the prominent national leaders of the Congress.
Following her move to the Trinamool Congress, she quickly became one of the party’s most visible national voices, serving as spokesperson and later entering the Rajya Sabha on the party’s nomination.
