Supreme Court to Hear Plea Against Stay on ‘Udaipur Files’ Release

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday agreed to hear a plea filed by the producer of the film ‘Udaipur Files’, challenging the stay order imposed by the Delhi High Court just a day before the film’s scheduled release.

Senior Advocate Gaurav Bhatia, representing the petitioner, mentioned the matter before the bench and sought urgent listing. The petitioner argued that the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) has already cleared the movie, and the sudden stay on its release infringes upon the fundamental rights of the filmmaker, particularly freedom of speech and expression.

The Delhi High Court had stayed the film’s release last week following objections raised regarding its content. The stay order came just 24 hours before the film was set to hit theatres, leading to disappointment among the filmmakers and last-minute disruptions in distribution.
