Mumbai: A day after veteran Bollywood actor Dharmendra was discharged from Mumbai’s Breach Candy Hospital, his son Sunny Deol lost his cool at paparazzi gathered outside their Juhu bungalow, appealing to them to respect the family’s privacy.
Dharmendra, 89, had been hospitalised for over 10 days, leading to widespread concern among fans. His family — including Sunny and Bobby Deol — has been regularly sharing health updates to assure well-wishers of his gradual recovery.
However, the constant media presence outside their residence seems to have tested Sunny Deol’s patience. On November 13, the Gadar 2 actor stepped out to address the photographers and requested them not to invade their private space. In a visibly emotional moment, he folded his hands and said, “Aapke ghar mein maa-baap hain, aapke ghar mein bacche hain… Sharam nahi aati? (Don’t you have parents at home? Don’t you feel ashamed?)”
The family brought Dharmendra home from the hospital on November 12. Shortly after, they issued an official statement, urging fans and media to refrain from speculation. The statement read, “Mr. Dharmendra has been discharged from the hospital and will continue his recovery at home. We kindly request the media and the public to respect his and the family’s privacy during this time. We appreciate everyone’s love, prayers, and good wishes for his continued recovery, good health, and long life. Please respect him because he loves you.”
This isn’t the first time the veteran actor’s health has sparked concern. Earlier this year, Dharmendra revealed that he had undergone an eye graft surgery. When asked by photographers about his recovery, he had reassured them, saying, “I am strong. Abhi bhi Dharmendra mein bahut dum hai. Meri aankh, eye graft (corneal transplantation) ho gayi hai. I am strong. Love you, my audience and my fans.”
Back in April, Sunny Deol had also addressed questions about his father’s health during a press conference in Delhi, saying, “Papa ekdum theek hain. Cataract ka operation tha, chhota sa tha, aisa kuch nahi (Dad is absolutely fine. It was a minor cataract surgery, nothing to worry about).”
