Patna: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has extended the enforcement of the Model Code of Conduct (MCC) across Patna district till November 16, in view of the vote counting for the Bihar Assembly elections scheduled on November 14. The move aims to maintain public order and prevent any untoward incidents in the aftermath of the results.
According to an official statement from the Patna District Administration, the MCC, which came into effect on October 6 with the announcement of the Bihar election schedule, will remain in place until mid-November.
District Magistrate of Patna has also issued prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, restricting public gatherings and celebrations. The order imposes a complete ban on victory processions, political meetings, rallies, and demonstrations related to the elections.
“The counting of votes for all 14 Assembly constituencies under Patna district will be conducted at A.N. College on November 14. To ensure peace and discipline, the Model Code of Conduct will remain active till November 16,” the District Administration said in its statement.
Officials further clarified that no political party, candidate, or organisation will be allowed to use sound amplification devices or hold public meetings during this period. “Any violation of the Model Code of Conduct or the prohibitory orders will invite strict legal action,” the District Election Officer-cum-District Magistrate added.
