Mumbai: In a tragic and unexpected incident, businessman Sunjay Kapur — ex-husband of Bollywood actress Karisma Kapoor — passed away at the age of 53 while playing polo in the United Kingdom on June 12. The incident reportedly occurred after he accidentally swallowed a bee during the match.
As per news agency, the bee became lodged in his throat, causing intense irritation and panic, which ultimately led to a fatal heart attack. Despite swift medical efforts, Kapur could not be revived.
Just hours before his untimely death, Sunjay had expressed condolences on social media for the victims of the Ahmedabad Air India plane crash. He wrote on X (formerly Twitter), “Terrible news of the tragic Air India crash in Ahmedabad. My thoughts and prayers are with all the families affected. May they find strength in this difficult hour.”
Sunjay Kapur was a well-known figure in the Indian corporate world, serving as the Chairman of Sona Comstar, an influential automotive technology firm. He is survived by his current wife, Priya Sachdev, and his two children — Samaira and Kiaan — from his previous marriage to Karisma Kapoor. The couple married in 2003 and were granted divorce in 2016 after years of separation.
