The political landscape in Maharashtra’s Baramati constituency is undergoing a significant transformation as Sunetra Pawar, the wife of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, steps into the electoral arena with gusto. Campaigning vigorously, Sunetra Pawar has been making rounds of various villages, signaling her intent to make a mark in the upcoming elections.
Sunetra Pawar’s entry into the fray comes amidst the announcement of Supriya Sule as a candidate from the Nationalist Sharad Pawar group, setting the stage for an intriguing electoral battle within the Pawar family’s political domain. Sunetra Pawar wasted no time in procuring the nomination papers after the NCP declared her candidacy, with plans to file the election application on April 18. The occasion is expected to witness the presence of prominent leaders like Ajit Pawar and Devendra Fadnavis.
A significant development in Sunetra Pawar’s candidacy is the purchase of an application form from the Pune District Collector’s office for contesting the election from the Baramati Lok Sabha constituency. In a strategic move, an application has also been purchased in the name of Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, hinting at a possible dual candidacy as a precautionary measure.
As the filing of nomination papers for the Baramati constituency commenced on March 12, the political landscape has been abuzz with activity. The deadline for applications is April 19, with Sunetra Pawar set to file her nomination on April 18, signaling the intensification of electoral preparations.
The political significance of Baramati has been heightened by the divide within the Pawar family, a dominant force in Maharashtra politics for decades. The rift, exemplified by Ajit Pawar’s rebellion, has led to a fragmentation of political allegiances, with the Nationalist Party and its symbol aligning with Ajit Pawar.
With the upcoming electoral battle poised to redefine the political contours of Baramati, the contest transcends mere family dynamics. Instead of a direct confrontation between Sunetra Pawar and Supriya Sule, the battle symbolizes a broader clash between Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar, resonating across Pune district and the state.
