Delhi: The BJP on Friday mounted a sharp counterattack on Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav over his remarks on the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, with party MP Sudhanshu Trivedi accusing the opposition of sending mixed and contradictory signals on the issue.

Reacting to Akhilesh Yadav’s statements, Trivedi said the controversy around SIR has exposed deep confusion within the INDIA alliance, particularly between the Samajwadi Party and the Congress. According to him, opposition leaders are struggling to take a consistent stand and are constantly changing their claims.

Addressing the media, Sudhanshu Trivedi said, “The issue with SIR seems to be that it is being treated as a tricky question for the INDIA alliance. Their situation has become such that they cannot speak freely, nor remain silent. Just a day or two ago, Samajwadi Party leader Akhilesh Yadav was saying that the Bharatiya Janata Party’s votes are being cut. A few days earlier, the Congress party was saying that SIR is causing the opposition’s votes to be divided. Now today, they are saying that SIR is not meant to split votes but to add votes.”

He further questioned the frequent shifts in the opposition’s position, adding, “Just a day ago, they were saying that Samajwadi Party workers and booth-level agents had secured their own votes. Now they are saying that it seems the Bharatiya Janata Party is securing votes. I am unable to understand this. I request that those involved in Samajwadi Party and Congress please clarify whose votes, according to them, are being split and whose votes are being added.”
