Mumbai: BJP leader and former Union Minister Smriti Irani launched a sharp attack on West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Friday, questioning her conduct during a recent enforcement action linked to an alleged hawala scam. Irani said the developments marked an unprecedented moment in the state’s political history.
Addressing the media, Smriti Irani said, “These scenes have never been witnessed when a state’s Chief Minister herself is present with the police to save the scamsters in the middle of a hawala scam raid. With the intensity Mamata Banerjee rushed to save the suspect along with the police—has the public of Bengal ever seen their Chief Minister arrive at such a scene with the police where a woman has been harassed?”
