Srinagar: Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Traffic Rural Kashmir, Ravinder Pal Singh, along with DSP Traffic North Dr. Mujahid Nazir, Tehsildar Handwara Zeeshan Khan, and SHO Handwara Sofi Vilayat, on Monday conducted a traffic awareness-cum-enforcement drive in Handwara sub-division of Kupwara district.

Officers interacted with commuters, transporters, and shopkeepers, stressing the importance of following traffic rules, wearing helmets and seat belts, maintaining proper parking discipline, and avoiding rash driving to promote road safety in the busy market area.

SSP said that dozens of vehicles were challaned on the spot for various offences, including lack of documents, non-usage of helmets, wrong parking, and other traffic violations.

A similar traffic awareness drive was also held in Pattan, where the Traffic Police sensitised commuters regarding road safety and legal requirements for vehicle operation.

Speaking to the media, the SSP Traffic Kashmir urged people not to purchase vehicles without obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the concerned traffic authorities of the UT.

He said strict enforcement and awareness campaigns will continue across the region to ensure smooth vehicular movement and safeguard public lives. He also appealed to the public to cooperate with authorities and follow traffic guidelines responsibly.
