Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis announced on Saturday that sitting MP Shrikant Shinde will be the Mahayuti alliance’s candidate from the Kalyan Lok Sabha constituency for the upcoming general elections. The announcement came during BJP’s Foundation Day celebrations.
Addressing party workers and journalists, Fadnavis said, “There is no opposition from the BJP’s end. Shrikant Shinde will be the Shiv Sena candidate in Kalyan and is ready to represent the Mahayuti.” He added that Shinde will contest with support from BJP, Shiv Sena, NCP, Republican Party of India, and RSP.
For other key seats, sources indicate the BJP will field Udyanraje Bhosale from Satara, while Chhagan Bhujbal is set to contest from Nashik with the Ajit Pawar camp’s backing. The Shinde faction has claimed the Nashik seat. In North-West Mumbai, the seat may go to the Shiv Sena.
Union Minister Narayan Rane will be the BJP candidate from Ratnagiri-Sindhudurg, and Sandipan Bhumre from the Shinde camp is likely to contest from Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
Maharashtra will vote across five phases on April 19, April 26, May 7, May 13, and May 20 for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections spanning 543 constituencies nationwide. Results will be announced on June 4.
