Filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has expressed his shock and disbelief over the tragic death of former Maharashtra MLA and National Congress Party leader Baba Siddique, who was shot dead on Saturday (October 12) outside his son Zeeshan Siddique’s office in Mumbai’s Bandra. Varma took to X (formerly Twitter) on Monday to share his thoughts on the horrifying incident, which has sparked significant concern and speculation.
In his post, the director of Rangeela referenced a chilling narrative, stating, “A lawyer turned gangster wants to take revenge for a deer’s death by killing a superstar. He orders his gang of 700, which he recruited through Facebook, to first kill a big politician who is a close friend of the star.” This statement underscores the bizarre circumstances surrounding Siddique’s murder and the potential motivations behind it.
Varma further suggested that the alleged shooter is receiving protection from government authorities while incarcerated, implying that the reach of organized crime extends into political spheres. “The police can’t catch him because he is under the protection of the government in a jail and his spokesman speaks from abroad,” he wrote, alluding to the complexities of criminal networks that operate beyond the law.
In a dramatic conclusion, Varma noted that if a Bollywood writer were to craft a storyline resembling the events surrounding Siddique’s death, they would likely face criticism for creating something too outrageous. “If a Bollywood writer comes up with a story like this, they will thrash him for writing the most unbelievable and ridiculous story ever,” he stated, emphasizing the absurdity of the situation.
Self-proclaimed film critic Kamaal R Khan responded to Varma’s post, stating, “But it’s a fantastic story, and you should make the film on this,” indicating a potential interest in exploring the narrative further through cinema.
The investigation into Siddique’s murder remains ongoing, with the motive yet to be established. Various theories are circulating, but police officials are diligently exploring all possible angles. On Sunday, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang claimed responsibility for the killing through a Facebook post, alleging that Siddique was targeted due to his connections with notorious underworld don Dawood Ibrahim. The post also included a warning for individuals associated with Bollywood actor Salman Khan, suggesting that they would face repercussions as well.
This incident comes on the heels of a previous attack involving the Lawrence Bishnoi gang when two men on a motorcycle fired shots at Salman Khan’s residence in April 2024, an incident linked to Bishnoi’s ongoing feud with the actor.
Baba Siddique’s last rites were conducted with full state honors at Bada Qabrastan on October 13, marking a somber moment for both the political and Bollywood communities. The shocking murder has sent ripples of grief and outrage through social media platforms, with many expressing their condolences and condemning the rise of violence in society.
