Chandigarh: In a startling development, DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar, a senior Punjab Police officer renowned for his strict action against crime and corruption, was arrested in a bribery case on Thursday, sending ripples across law enforcement and administrative circles in the state.

Bhullar, a 2007-batch IPS officer, was taken into custody following allegations of corruption, prompting a CBI investigation into the matter. His arrest has left many in the police department shocked, as he was long considered a disciplined and upright officer with a reputation for integrity.

Currently serving as a Deputy Inspector General in Punjab Police, Bhullar has held several key positions over the years and earned respect for his firm action against the drug mafia, organised crime, and corruption-related offences. Until the allegations surfaced, his career was viewed as a model of professionalism and honesty.

Bhullar comes from a family deeply embedded in Punjab’s law enforcement and political scene. His father, Mehal Singh Bhullar, served as DGP of Punjab and was noted for his role in anti-terror operations during the 1980s and 1990s. His younger brother, Kuldeep Singh Bhullar, is a former Congress MLA, making the family’s public service legacy a focal point of scrutiny in the wake of the arrest.

The CBI is actively probing the bribery case, while Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party has promised full transparency. Party spokesperson Baltej Pannu stated, “Corruption will not be tolerated at any cost,” assuring the public of a thorough investigation.

  1. Oh, the ironies! One minute youve got an officer celebrated for his battle against corruption, the next *he* is the one facing the CBIs sharp teeth. Families of power seem to have a unique relationship with the law, dont they? From DGP Bhullar to MLA Bhullar, its a circus of scrutiny. Good to see the Aam Aadmi Partys commitment to transparency, though it always sounds a little like a well be watching you PSA. Heres hoping the CBIs investigation is as thorough as Bhullar reportedly used to be with the drug mafia! #Punjab #CBI #FamilyBusinessđếm ngược ngày
