Sanjay Raut, spokesperson for Shiv Sena (UBT), took aim at the Modi government’s ‘One Nation One Election’ initiative on Friday, alleging that it’s an attempt to divert attention from the burgeoning strength of the INDIA alliance. Raut questioned the necessity of a special session of Parliament scheduled during the Ganpati festival from September 18 to 22, labeling it as “deceit” and a disservice to Ganpati Ji.

Expressing his concerns, Raut emphasized the need for fair elections, claiming that the ‘One Nation One Election’ proposal is a conspiracy to delay elections. He also pointed out that the BJP government hadn’t respected Ramnath Kovind when he held the presidency, yet they now occupy him with a committee tasked with exploring the feasibility of ‘One Nation One Election.’

Raut further raised doubts about the special session of Parliament, noting that during regular sessions, the prime minister rarely participates in proceedings. He alleged that these moves by the BJP-led Centre are deliberate attempts to shift attention away from the ongoing INDIA alliance meeting in Mumbai. He clarified that the opposition bloc’s meeting aims to encompass all allies and reach a consensus on various issues, with committees such as the chief coordination committee, research committee, campaign and agenda committee, and manifesto committee likely to take shape.

In a startling allegation, Raut stated, “A corrupt Election Commission is working in this country,” contending that fair elections cannot take place as long as such corruption persists. He concluded, “One Nation One Election is just a new tactic. You are scared.”

Meanwhile, Vijay Wadettiwar, Leader of the Opposition in the Maharashtra Assembly, announced that the unveiling of the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance (INDIA) logo would not occur during the ongoing alliance meeting. He insinuated that the ‘One Nation One Election’ move was a response to the growing influence of the INDIA alliance.
