Second School in Mumbai Receives Threat Email; Police Suspect Mischief, Urge Public to Stay Calm

Mumbai: Tensions rose in Mumbai’s western suburbs on Tuesday after a second school received a threatening email, just hours after a similar threat was reported at another educational institution in the city. However, preliminary investigations suggest that the threats were not linked to any terror activity and may have been the work of mischief-makers.

According to police officials, both emails carried vague but alarming language, triggering concern among parents, school authorities, and local residents. Swift police deployment was initiated, and school premises were thoroughly checked for any suspicious items or activity. No threats were found in either case.

Law enforcement agencies are now tracing the origin of the emails, with cybercrime units already involved. Early signs indicate the messages may have been sent from a masked or fake IP address, a tactic commonly used in hoax threats.

Despite the anxiety, Mumbai Police have appealed to parents, students, and the public not to panic or spread unverified information. “We are taking the matter seriously but urge everyone not to give in to fear or rumors. There is no evidence at this stage suggesting a credible terror plot,” a senior police official said.

Security has been temporarily heightened at several schools across the city as a precautionary measure. Meanwhile, authorities are working closely with educational institutions to ensure student safety and to restore normalcy quickly.

The incident has also prompted a renewed conversation around the growing trend of email-based hoaxes targeting public spaces and the strain they place on law enforcement resources.
