The Samajwadi Party has begun a statewide exercise to identify strong candidates for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls.

Lucknow: Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav on Thursday dismissed the Uttar Pradesh budget presented by the Yogi Adityanath-led government, calling it the “second last budget” of the BJP in the state.

Yadav criticized the budget for lacking vision and failing to address key concerns of the people. “This is the ninth budget of this government, and it is their second last. After this, the final budget will come, and then people will get a chance to choose a new government,” he said.

He accused the BJP of presenting budgets without a clear roadmap for progress, adding, “There is no clarity on how the needs of the common people will be addressed.”

Mocking the government’s claim of presenting the “biggest budget,” Yadav said, “Every new budget is naturally bigger than the last one. But what matters is what’s inside, and this one is hollow—just an empty drum making noise.”

He alleged that the budget had failed different sections of society, leaving farmers hopeless, women struggling with household expenses, and the unemployed without opportunities. “Even BJP ministers and MLAs who were thumping desks in the Assembly are now worried about facing public anger over inflation and unemployment,” he added.
