Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader and former Delhi minister Satyendar Jain has filed a defamation suit against Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Bansuri Swaraj, accusing her of making defamatory remarks aimed at tarnishing his reputation. The case will be heard by the Rouse Avenue Court on Tuesday, December 10, as reported by news agency ANI.

Jain’s defamation complaint stems from statements allegedly made by Swaraj during a televised interview on October 5, 2023. He claims the remarks, broadcast widely, were false, politically motivated, and designed to damage his public image.

The former minister alleged that Swaraj falsely accused him of possessing ₹3 crores in cash, 1.8 kilograms of gold, and 133 gold coins, allegations he firmly denies. Jain further stated that the BJP MP labeled him as “corrupt” and “fraud,” making additional statements that he described as malicious and baseless.

In his plea, Jain argued that Swaraj’s accusations caused significant harm to his personal and professional reputation. “The remarks have deeply affected my roles as a husband, father, brother, and friend, apart from tarnishing my image as a public representative,” he stated. Jain also claimed that the smear campaign has not only hurt him socially but also caused emotional distress within his family and community.

The case marks yet another flashpoint in the ongoing political rivalry between AAP and BJP, with the issue highlighting the broader battle over accountability and rhetoric in Indian politics.
