Uddhav Thackeray Camp Suffers Fresh Blow as MLC Sachin Ahir Joins Eknath Shinde’s Shiv Sena

The political battle within the Shiv Sena took another significant turn on Monday after MLC Sachin Ahir left the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT) and joined the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena. The move is being viewed as another setback for the Uddhav Thackeray camp ahead of crucial political developments in Maharashtra.

Sachin Ahir, an MLC from the Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray (UBT) faction, filed his nomination on behalf of the Shiv Sena led by Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde for the election to the post of Deputy Chairman of the Maharashtra Legislative Council on Monday. The nomination was filed in the presence of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, ministers Chandrakant Patil and Sanjay Shirsat, along with several legislators. Ahir’s move is being viewed as a major political shift, as he has effectively parted ways with the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray) and accepted the leadership of Shinde. With legal exemption under the anti-defection provisions applicable to the Deputy Chairman’s post, Ahir is expected to formally join the Shinde-led Shiv Sena later today.

Shinde Camp Strengthens Position

Sachin Ahir’s entry is expected to further strengthen Eknath Shinde’s position in the Legislative Council. By fielding him for the Deputy Chairman’s post immediately after his induction, the Shinde-led Shiv Sena has signalled its confidence in expanding its influence within the state’s legislative institutions.

Political observers believe the development reflects the continued reshaping of Maharashtra’s political landscape following the split in the Shiv Sena.

‘Operation Tiger’ Gains Momentum

Ahir’s switch has once again drawn attention to “Operation Tiger”, the political strategy associated with Chief Minister Eknath Shinde’s camp.

Over the past several months, the Shinde faction has consistently welcomed leaders from rival parties, particularly the Uddhav Thackeray-led Shiv Sena (UBT), strengthening its organisational and legislative strength.

The latest defection adds another prominent name to the growing list of leaders who have crossed over to the Shinde camp.
