New Delhi: The Delhi government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) has filed a corruption case against former Public Works Department (PWD) minister and senior Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Satyendar Jain over alleged irregularities in a ₹571-crore CCTV project. The case, registered on Tuesday, comes after obtaining prior sanction under Section 17A of the Prevention of Corruption Act, officials confirmed on Wednesday.

According to Joint Commissioner of Police (ACB) Madhur Verma, Jain is accused of arbitrarily waiving ₹16 crore in liquidated damages imposed on Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) for delays in installing CCTV cameras across Delhi. Allegations suggest that the waiver was granted after Jain allegedly received a ₹7 crore bribe.

The CCTV project, meant to enhance surveillance and improve public safety in the capital, has been marred by controversy. Multiple complaints claim that several cameras were non-functional at the time of installation and that the project was carried out in a substandard manner.
