Renowned Cricket Critic Dwarkanath Sanzgiri Passes Away; Sports World in Mourning

Mumbai: Veteran Marathi cricket critic, columnist, and author Dwarkanath Sanzgiri passed away today at the age of 74. He had been undergoing treatment at Lilavati Hospital for the past few days but succumbed to his illness. His demise has left a significant void in the world of sports journalism and literature.

Sanzgiri was a civil engineer by profession and retired as the Chief Engineer (Water Supply Projects) from Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) in 2008. However, he carved out a niche for himself as a cricket critic, writer, and travelogue author.

A Master of Cricket Writing

Sanzgiri covered every One-Day International Cricket World Cup since 1983. His columns were regularly published in Lokprabha, Sakal, Maharashtra Times, Loksatta, and several other leading publications. His writing style was known for its richness, engaging flow, and deep analysis.

He authored several books on cricket, travel, social issues, and cinema, which gained immense popularity among Marathi readers.

Harsha Bhogle’s Tribute

Prominent cricket commentator Harsha Bhogle expressed his grief on Twitter, stating:
“Deeply saddened to hear of Dwarkanath Sanzgiri’s passing. A friend of 38 years, his writing was full of style, color, and vivid imagery. His words painted a picture that brought cricket to life.”

Final Rites Tomorrow

Sanzgiri’s last rites will be performed tomorrow at 12 PM at Shivaji Park Crematorium, Mumbai.
