“Remain Indoors, Red Alert Still On”: Calm Returns to Jammu & Kashmir, But High Vigil Continues Across Border Regions

Srinagar: The situation in Jammu and Kashmir remains stable and largely peaceful following the recent ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan, with no fresh incidents of firing, shelling, or drone activity reported overnight from the Line of Control (LoC) or the International Border (IB). Key regions including Poonch, Akhnoor, Rajouri, and Jammu city have shown signs of normalcy, even as security forces remain on high alert.

Visuals circulating online show daily life gradually returning in several parts of the Union Territory, offering a glimmer of relief after days of tension. However, earlier reports suggested that Pakistan had attempted to violate the ceasefire just hours after its announcement, with isolated instances of drone activity and shelling. These attempts were reportedly short-lived, as both sides refrained from any further military engagement through the night.

Despite the pause in hostilities, caution prevails, especially in vulnerable areas. In a significant early morning development, the Amritsar district administration issued a red alert advisory on May 11. At 5:24 am, Deputy Commissioner of Amritsar confirmed that while electricity had been restored, the district remained on high alert. Sirens were sounded to warn residents, and people were strongly advised to “stay indoors, away from windows, and wait for official instructions.”

Authorities emphasized the importance of remaining calm and following safety guidelines strictly, even in the absence of active conflict.

In neighboring Haryana, the state government moved swiftly to ensure preparedness. Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini convened an emergency high-level meeting to review response mechanisms. Addressing deputy commissioners, police commissioners, and senior administrative officers via video conference, Saini underscored the importance of coordination, quick response systems, and public reassurance. “We must prevent panic through clear, transparent communication and ensure people’s trust remains intact,” the Chief Minister stated.
