Ranbir Kapoor has confirmed that his 2023 film Animal will expand into a trilogy, with the sequel titled Animal Park. Speaking to Deadline, the actor shared that director Sandeep Reddy Vanga has ambitious plans to take the story forward in three parts. Ranbir described Vanga as “an extremely original director” and revealed that work on the sequel is set to begin in 2027 once the director completes his current projects.
Ranbir said, “Sandeep wants to make it over three parts. The second part is called Animal Park. We’ve been sharing ideas since the first film, and now it’s exciting because I get to play two characters – the antagonist and the protagonist. It’s a challenging and thrilling project.”
The trilogy approach has drawn comparisons to Sukumar’s Pushpa series, starring Allu Arjun, which is also being developed into three parts. The first installment, Pushpa: The Rise (2021), was a massive hit, while its sequel, Pushpa 2: The Rule, recently broke box office records.
Animal, which starred Anil Kapoor, Bobby Deol, Triptii Dimri, and Rashmika Mandanna alongside Ranbir, explored the strained relationship between a powerful industrialist father and his ruthless son. The film received mixed reviews, with criticism directed at its themes of misogyny, toxic masculinity, and graphic violence. Despite this, Ranbir expressed his commitment to portraying diverse characters, stating, “As an actor, it’s important to dabble in different genres and roles, but I also believe we have a responsibility to bring movies that inspire positive change in society.”
The sequel, Animal Park, promises to delve deeper into the story, building on the intensity and depth of the original film while charting new narrative territory. Fans of the series can anticipate an exciting cinematic journey as the trilogy unfolds.
