Jakarta: Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Thursday met his US counterpart on the sidelines of the ASEAN Defence Ministers’ Meeting-Plus (ADMM-Plus) in Jakarta, expressing optimism that the meeting would mark the beginning of a “new chapter” in the India–US defence partnership with the signing of a Defence Framework Agreement.

Speaking at the bilateral meeting, Singh said, “We have held telephonic conversations thrice. I am delighted to be meeting you in person on the sidelines of ADMM-Plus. On this occasion, I feel a new chapter will begin today with the signing of the Defence Framework.”

The Defence Minister added that he was confident of deeper collaboration between New Delhi and Washington under the current US administration. “I am confident that under your leadership, India-US relations will further strengthen,” Singh said, highlighting the shared vision of both nations in ensuring peace, stability, and a free and open Indo-Pacific region.

The ADMM-Plus platform brings together ASEAN member states and their eight dialogue partners — including India, the US, China, Japan, Russia, Australia, New Zealand, and South Korea — to enhance defence cooperation and regional security.
