Rahul Gandhi Warns Pune Court of “Grave Threat” to Life Amid Defamation Battle with Savarkar Descendant

Pune: In a dramatic courtroom moment, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi told a Pune court that his life is under “grave threat” in connection with an ongoing defamation case filed against him by Satyaki Savarkar — a descendant of Nathuram Godse and Hindutva icon Vinayak Damodar Savarkar.

Gandhi urged the court to take immediate measures to safeguard his security and ensure the proceedings remain free from intimidation or bias. “I am ready to face the law, but my safety and the fairness of this trial must not be compromised,” Gandhi stated.

The defamation case stems from Rahul Gandhi’s previous remarks linking Godse, Mahatma Gandhi’s assassin, to the Hindutva ideology — comments that sparked outrage among the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and right-wing organisations. Satyaki Savarkar claims the remarks were a deliberate insult to his family legacy.
