Pune Rave Party Row: Eknath Khadse Seeks Transparent Probe as Son-in-Law Remanded in Police Custody

Pune: In a high-profile drug bust that has rocked Maharashtra’s political circles, Pune Police have arrested seven individuals—including Eknath Khadse’s son-in-law Gaurav Khewalkar—in connection with an alleged rave party held in the Kharadi area early Sunday morning. A Pune court has remanded all seven accused to police custody till July 29.

Among those arrested are Nikhil Poptani, Sameer Sayyad, Sachin Bhombe, Shreepad Yadav, Isha Singh, and Prachi Sharma, along with Gaurav Khewalkar. The Pune Crime Branch conducted the raid around 3:30 am based on a tip-off and recovered narcotics and other party paraphernalia worth ₹41.34 lakh.

The seized materials include 2.07 grams of cocaine, 100 grams of marijuana (ganja), hookah pots, beer bottles, 10 mobile phones, and two four-wheelers. Police stated that the drugs recovered qualify as intermediate quantities under the NDPS Act.

The case has taken a political turn with senior NCP (Sharad Pawar faction) leader and former Maharashtra minister Eknath Khadse, who is also Khewalkar’s father-in-law, speaking out publicly. “I will not support my son-in-law if he is guilty,” Khadse said, adding, “But if he is being falsely implicated, I will not spare anyone responsible. I hope Pune Police investigate the matter with complete transparency and honesty.”

In court, advocate Vijay Thombre, representing Khewalkar, denied all charges and claimed his client was being framed for political reasons. “He was stalked by police on at least two previous occasions. This is a deliberate attempt to implicate him. Khewalkar is not a drug user and is, in fact, a victim of political conspiracy,” Thombre argued.
