Mumbai: In yet another grim reminder of Mumbai’s pothole-ridden roads, a man lost his life in a tragic accident on the Jogeshwari-Vikhroli Link Road (JVLR) near Powai on Sunday. The deceased has been identified as Lalu Gangaram Kamble, who was riding a scooter when the fatal incident occurred.
According to the Mumbai Police, Kamble was navigating the stretch when his two-wheeler hit a water-filled pothole, causing him to lose balance and fall. In a matter of seconds, a dumper truck trailing behind ran over him, leading to his death on the spot.
The pothole was reportedly obscured due to heavy rains and poor road maintenance, creating a deadly trap for unsuspecting commuters. Eyewitnesses said Kamble didn’t see the water-filled cavity and was thrown off his vehicle as the front wheel dipped into it.
Civic apathy is once again under scrutiny, as locals claimed they had complained multiple times about the deteriorating condition of that particular stretch of road. Despite being a major link between the western and eastern suburbs, the JVLR is frequently plagued with potholes during monsoons.
