Jaipur: A prisoner lodged in Rajasthan’s Salaswal Jail in Dausa district allegedly called the Jaipur police control room on Friday night and issued a death threat against Chief Minister Bhajan Lal Sharma, officials said.

The accused, 29-year-old Rinku, is serving a life sentence for rape. His threat call prompted an intense search operation inside the jail from 3 AM to 7 AM, during which police recovered the mobile phone used for the call. The motive behind the threat remains unclear, and authorities are investigating further.

This is not the first time CM Sharma has faced such threats. In July 2024, a prisoner from Dausa Central Jail issued a similar threat, and in January 2024, a POCSO convict from Jaipur Central Jail also threatened to shoot Sharma.

The incident comes amid a series of security threats targeting political leaders. On Thursday, Mumbai Police received emails threatening to blow up Maharashtra Deputy CM Eknath Shinde’s car. Two suspects from Deulgaon Mahi village were arrested for allegedly sending the emails.
