New Delhi: India on Wednesday issued a sharp rebuttal to China’s latest move to rename several locations in Arunachal Pradesh, dismissing the attempt as “preposterous” and reaffirming that the northeastern state is an inseparable part of the country.

The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) hit back after Beijing released a new list of standardized Chinese names for various places in Arunachal Pradesh, a region China refers to as part of “southern Tibet”. This is the fourth such list released by China since 2017, as part of what analysts see as an ongoing effort to assert its territorial claims.

Reacting strongly, MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said, “We have noticed that China has persisted with its vain and preposterous attempts to name places in the Indian state of Arunachal Pradesh.”

He further stated, “Consistent with our principled position, we reject such attempts categorically. Creative naming will not alter the undeniable reality that Arunachal Pradesh was, is, and will always remain an integral and inalienable part of India.”

The statement reflects India’s longstanding stance on Arunachal Pradesh, a state that has frequently been at the center of tensions between the two Asian powers.
