Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday unveiled the Bharatiya Janata Party’s manifesto, titled ‘Sankalp Patra’, for the upcoming two-phase assembly elections in West Bengal. The BJP promised that a Uniform Civil Code (UCC) would be implemented within six months of coming to power. Shah also announced a series of welfare measures including ₹3,000 monthly financial assistance for women and unemployed youth, along with implementation of the Seventh Pay Commission within 45 days.
The party assured rollout of central schemes like Ayushman Bharat in the state and pledged to strengthen law and order with a zero-tolerance policy against infiltrators. It also promised 33 percent reservation for women in government jobs, including in the police force.
Focus on Youth, Farmers and Infrastructure
The ‘Sankalp Patra’ outlines financial support for youth preparing for competitive exams, including ₹15,000 assistance and a five-year age relaxation for those affected by alleged recruitment irregularities. Farmers are promised additional support under the PM Kisan scheme, with the state contributing ₹3,000 over and above the Centre’s ₹6,000 annual aid.
Infrastructure development is also a key focus, with plans to build four new townships and integrate the state’s health scheme with Ayushman Bharat.
Cultural and Spiritual Initiatives Announced
The BJP also announced cultural initiatives, including the development of a Chaitanya Mahaprabhu spiritual circuit and a cultural centre in the name of Rabindranath Tagore. A Vande Mataram museum is also planned to promote Bengal’s rich heritage.
Shah Targets Mamata Banerjee Government
Launching a sharp attack on Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and the Trinamool Congress, Shah alleged that the state has suffered due to “fake promises” and a nexus with infiltrators.
“This manifesto will also place before the people of Bengal the roadmap for the developed India envisioned by Prime Minister Modi… The people are frightened and disillusioned. The people want change from the heart,” Shah said.
He further added, “To get rid of the communist government, Bengal chose Mamata ji. She said five years were not enough and was given another chance. But with syndicates, goondaraj and infiltrators, she secured a third term as well.”
Two-Phase Poll Schedule Announced
Assembly elections in West Bengal will be conducted in two phases on April 23 and April 29, with counting scheduled for May 4. The BJP is positioning its manifesto as a roadmap for building a “viksit” and “sonar” Bengal, expressing confidence that voters will back the party for change.
