New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi arrived in Saudi Arabia on Tuesday for a two-day visit aimed at enhancing trade, defence, and strategic relations between the two nations. In a statement issued ahead of his departure, Modi emphasized the shared interest of India and Saudi Arabia in promoting regional peace, security, and stability.
“Our countries have developed a mutually beneficial and substantive partnership in defence, trade, investment, energy, and people-to-people ties,” said Modi, noting that India’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has gained significant strategic depth and momentum in recent years. He added that both nations are committed to regional peace and prosperity.
As part of his visit, Modi will co-chair the second meeting of the Strategic Partnership Council with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, who also serves as the country’s prime minister. The council, which is the highest body guiding bilateral relations, covers a wide range of areas including politics, security, trade, and culture.
In a separate social media post, Modi expressed excitement about the growing bilateral ties. “Bilateral ties have gained significant momentum in the last decade,” he wrote, highlighting the increasing cooperation between the two nations.
This marks Modi’s third visit to Saudi Arabia in the past decade and his first to the city of Jeddah. The trip follows Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s state visit to India in 2023, underscoring the strengthening relationship between the two nations.
“I am also eager to connect with the vibrant Indian community in Saudi Arabia, which continues to serve as the living bridge between our nations, making immense contributions to strengthening cultural and human ties,” Modi added.
