PM Modi’s ‘Mann Ki Baat’: Relief for Karur Victims, Tributes to Icons, and Call for ‘Vocal for Local’

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in the 126th edition of his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat on Sunday, September 28, touched upon relief measures, paid heartfelt tributes to legendary personalities, and appealed for support to local products ahead of Gandhi Jayanti.

Relief for Karur Rally Victims
Referring to the tragic incident at Karur, PM Modi announced financial aid for the affected families. “Rs 2 lakh from the PMNRF will be given to the families of those who lost their lives, and Rs 50,000 for those injured,” he said, while stressing the importance of swift relief and assistance.

Tribute to Zubeen Garg
The Prime Minister remembered late Assamese singer Zubeen Garg with deep respect. “The nation mourns the loss of Zubeen Garg. His songs touched millions and will continue to inspire generations, preserving Assam’s rich cultural heritage,” Modi remarked, highlighting his role in taking Assamese music to national audiences.

Remembering Lata Mangeshkar
On the birth anniversary of Bharat Ratna Lata Mangeshkar, PM Modi said, “Anyone interested in Indian culture and music cannot help but be overwhelmed by her songs. The patriotic songs she sang inspired countless people.” Recalling their personal bond, he mentioned how she tied him a Rakhi every year.

Homage to Bhagat Singh
Paying tribute to revolutionary freedom fighter Bhagat Singh, Modi described him as a “source of inspiration for every Indian, especially youth.” He added, “Fearlessness was ingrained in his nature. Before he was hanged, he said that he wanted himself and his friends to be treated as prisoners of war. This is proof of his indomitable courage.”

Chhath Puja Gains Global Recognition
Speaking about Bihar’s traditional festival, Modi said, “Chhath Puja honours Surya Dev with offerings to the setting sun. Once local, it is now becoming a global festival.” He appreciated ongoing efforts to get Chhath Puja included in UNESCO’s list of Intangible Cultural Heritage.

Vocal for Local and Khadi Push
Ahead of Gandhi Jayanti, PM Modi reiterated his call for adopting local products. “I encourage everyone to buy Khadi and contribute to the ‘Vocal for Local’ movement. This preserves traditional crafts and strengthens India’s economy,” he urged.
