New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday reaffirmed India’s unwavering commitment to bringing the perpetrators of the Pahalgam massacre to justice, condemning the April 22 terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed 26 lives.

Speaking at a joint press conference with Angolan President João Lourenço in Delhi, PM Modi said, “Both countries believe that terrorism is the biggest danger towards mankind. We’re committed to take firm and decisive actions against terrorists and those who support them. We thank Angola for their support in our fight against cross-border terrorism.”

The remarks come amid rising tensions in the Valley following the deadly attack, which has reignited national and global calls for stronger action against terror elements operating across borders.

Modi also used the occasion to underline the growing strength of India’s relationship with Angola and the African continent. “India and Angola are celebrating 40th anniversary of their diplomatic partnership. However, our relationship goes way back. When Angola was fighting for its freedom, India was standing beside it with faith and friendship,” he said.

Highlighting a decade of deepening engagement with Africa, the Prime Minister added, “In the last 10 years, India has gained speed in cooperation with African nations. Trade has reached almost $100 billion. We’ve improved defence cooperation and maritime security.”

He noted that India recently held its first naval maritime exercise with African countries, opened 17 new embassies on the continent, and extended credit lines worth $12 billion along with $700 million in grants. In a push for digital empowerment and skills development, India has also opened vocational training centres across 8 African nations and is helping build digital public infrastructure in five.

Reinforcing India’s vision of solidarity with the Global South, Modi said, “India and the African Union are partners in progress and pillars of the Global South. Under Angola’s Presidentship, the strength of our partnership will strengthen further.”
