PM Modi Unveils 184 Ultra-Modern MP Residences in Delhi, Slams Decade-Long Housing Neglect

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday inaugurated 184 newly constructed flats for Members of Parliament at Baba Kharak Singh Marg, Delhi — a project aimed at ending the chronic shortage of MP housing in the capital.

The residential complex features four towering structures, named after India’s revered rivers — Krishna, Godavari, Kosi, and Hooghly. Designed with a focus on sustainability, each tower offers MPs spacious, modern accommodations in a vertical housing format, a move driven by limited land availability in Delhi.

During the ceremony, PM Modi planted a Sindoor sapling on the premises and personally interacted with the construction workers (sramajeevis) who played a pivotal role in the project.

“Today I had the fortune of inaugurating the residential complex for my colleagues in Parliament. Some may object to the name ‘Kosi,’ not seeing it as a river but linking it to Bihar elections. But these are the four great rivers of India,” PM Modi remarked.

The Prime Minister underlined that Delhi’s acute MP housing shortage had long been ignored. “Despite the shortage, no new residences were built from 2014 to 2024. We treated this as a campaign and built around 350 residences since 2014,” he said.

PM Modi also highlighted the massive cost savings, revealing that ministries earlier operated from rented spaces costing nearly ₹1,500 crore annually. The new setup will not only reduce expenses but also allow MPs to focus on their legislative work without worrying about accommodations.
